Stop and Lean into Gratitude

Everyone has those days. You know, THOSE days when everything just seems to be going wrong.

On your way home from work you get a flat tire. When you arrive home and are unloading groceries, you lock yourself out of your house. While cooking dinner you get a call from your best friend who is in tears on the other end of the line and you burn your meal.  You are left wondering if you have the worst luck in the world and if anything will ever go your way ever agin.

It’s at times like these when one needs to really stop and lean into gratitude.

That’s right, gratitude.

On the surface it might look like everything is a mess, but underneath you are so very blessed and have much to be thankful for at this very moment. So you had a flat tire; be thankful you had AAA to come and get that fixed for you right away. You locked yourself out of you house; be grateful that you have a warm place to call home. So you burned dinner; give thanks that you can call for delivery instead.

You see, it’s so important to be grateful for what you have in this life. Sure, it’s okay to have a bad day and feel what you need to feel (no one needs to keep things bottled inside), but give yourself that day and then pick yourself back up because you are simply not resourceful in that negative space. Go to the gratitude and reach for the positive because that will attract even more positive into your life.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to really get a grasp on the gifts that you have right in front of you. Embrace them. Better yet, give to those who have less than you do; I guarantee there are hundreds of thousands of people who would give anything to have what you do right now. Giving back can be the most empowering thing you can do for yourself and for others.

So why not start today? A rewarding exercise can simply be keeping a gratitude journal of the things you are thankful for each day. Even if you list only one or two, you’ll start to see just how much you have in this life.
