Ever get so burnt out that it feels like you just stuck your finger in a light socket? All you want to do is cozy up in bed, have a glass of wine, and watch a Law & Order marathon. However, life is calling and you have responsibilities. What do you do when you feel like a giant slug barely making it through the day?

It’s okay to feel this way as everyone encounters burn out at one time or another (if not more) during the year. There’s only so much go, go, go, you have in you before it’s all gone, gone, gone. And while it’s okay to feel the burn out, it’s important to not lose sight of your personal health and well-being. You, my friend, are irreplaceable and need to stay at the top of your game.

I know, I know, there’s only so much one person can do, right? This is true, but your personal health is paramount and being at the top of your game means more than just showing up to work every day. It’s being the best you that you can possibly be.

“But Jodie, I’m tired and what does it matter if I’m taken care of as long as the rest of my family doing okay? I need a break, sister!” Let me just say I hear you loud and clear, but it’s important to remember that you can’t give what you don’t have yourself. You may feel like you are giving your all to those that need you, but if you are depleted, what do you have to give? How grounding is that, really?

That’s when you need to reload the most. Burn out can be a tricky thing but it’s not an excuse to throw in the towel, rather it’s a sign that it’s time to give yourself permission to fully recharge. Maybe it’s time for you to take that vacation that you’ve been talking about for so long. Maybe it’s as simple as a 24-hour mental health day.  Contact me if you need help battling burn out and we’ll come up with a plan to truly nourish you and your spirit.
